Meet an ISC Staff Member – Włodek Wencel!

It’s time to meet another of ISC’s engineers! This time, let’s get to know Włodek Wencel, our DHCP Quality Assurance Manager.

Włodek has been with ISC for his entire professional career, nearly 11 years. He started as an intern after working with Tomek Mrugalski on the Forge system testing tool, as part of his master’s degree program at the Gdańsk University of Technology. Over the years, Włodek has progressed from intern to junior engineer to senior engineer, and in 2024 he became ISC’s DHCP QA team leader.

Initially, working on open source was not a focus for him; he was just looking to collaborate with smart engineers that he could learn from. But now that he has seen how rewarding it is to work on an open source project, he has no plans to change anytime soon. He says, “Knowing that my work can improve the usability and quality of a product that anyone can use - and that is used all around the world - is amazing and hugely motivating to do better work each day.”

When Włodek started at ISC, he had to build our QA processes and procedures from scratch. For many years he was our sole DHCP QA engineer, and he is proud that he was able to improve our coverage and develop multiple tools that have helped ISC create high-quality code. He is also very glad that he is no longer the only person on the QA team. He says, “As team leader, I am responsible for the work of the entire QA team, from planning to helping QA engineers do the best work possible. Fortunately, I still have time for engineering work, designing and writing system tests, testing environments, and release engineering.”

He describes our staff as “a community, even a family” and says that’s one of the best things about working at ISC. He adds, “At ISC, I feel appreciated and important.” Włodek has also taken great advantage of the fact that we all work remotely: “Throughout the years, I’ve worked in Spain, Greece, Georgia, Austria, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, and small islands like Madeira and Sardinia. I’ve traveled around Europe on my motorcycle with an ‘office’ in my bags.”

When he’s not at his desk, you’ll find Włodek on his motorcycle, at a heavy metal concert, participating in some extreme winter sports, or enjoying a nice glass of wine.

Włodek and his work are very important to his coworkers and our customers, and we’re lucky to have him as part of our team!
